Brief Biography

We provide consulting services under the name of Power Capital Partners LLC. John Alvarado has been providing consulting services to companies invested in or seeking to invest in the energy industry since 2000. His particular niche is on sourcing capital for energy companies and for energy technology companies.

John Alvarado was a founder and partner in Stratum Group LP between 1995 and 1999. Stratum was a New York based private equity firm targeting investments in North American energy companies. At Stratum the team continued the successful record of investing it had established at MG Trade Finance Corp.

John joined MG Trade Finance Corp. in 1987. MG Trade Finance Corp was a commodity finance subsidiary of Metallgesellshaft Corp. a German based financial, industrial, and manufacturing conglomerate. John was a Senior Vice President at the firm. While there, he was involved in deal generation, structuring, portfolio management, and oversight of operations and financial analyses areas.

John gained a significant amount of his operations, internal audit, and upstream experience while at Occidental Petroleum Corp. Oxy is an international conglomerate with significant interests across several industries but with a primary interest in oil and gas. John was a member of the Corporate Internal Audit department. While there, he performed extensive financial, operational, and field reviews of oil and gas, chemical, plastic, coal, transportation, and trading subsidiaries of Occidental. John traveled extensively domestically and internationally with extended assignments in: Colombia, Bolivia, Mexico, Pakistan, Oman, London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.

John began his career on the downstream side of the business. He began his career in finance and accounting with Shell Oil and Chemical Company in Deer Park, Texas. He held positions in finance, internal auditing, and accounting at Shell's largest oil and chemical complex located on the Houston Ship Channel. Specifically, John performed significant financial and operational reviews at this Oil and Chemical complex.

John Alvarado is a former member of the Board of Governors of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA). He is an independent trustee and serves as the audit committee Chairman of the Arbitrage Fund. The Arbitrage Fund is an $170 million M&A arbitrage, publically traded fund.

John Alvarado received his BBA in Finance from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and his MBA from Fordham University in New York.
